Based on the graphic novel of the same name developed by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, it narrates the famous battle of Thermopylae in which a reduced army of 300 soldiers led by Leonidas, king of Sparta, fought against the innumerable and superior Persian army led by Emperor Xerxes. Xerxes was determined to conquer Greece, an intention that would eventually lead to the outbreak of the Medical Wars. When the emperor offers Leonidas to pay tribute in exchange for his surrender, he refuses and decides to stand up to the Persian army by leading his 300 newly recruited men to the Thermopylae pass to stop the enemy's advance. Leonidas is aware that his numbers are minuscule compared to the enormously armed ranks of the Persians, but he is counting on all his battle skills and those of his Spartan brothers to stand up to them.

The bravery of the Spartan men who defended their honor in the face of all adversity inspired the Greek polis to unite against the Persians, laying the foundation for what would later become a democracy.
