Few people remember anymore the great loss of humanity after 300 years of peace inside the walls, but humanity was defeated and its only option was to build huge and gigantic walls to protect itself from what is outside. Attack on Titan teaches us that it happened to humanity against the titans, giants that only feed on humans and that are practically invincible, humanity could only hide behind walls and avoid being devoured.

Personally, I love the way the plot unfolds during this first season. I'm fascinated by humanity's desperation to exterminate the titans and the desire to know the outside world beyond what they already know inside the walls they show us throughout history. All those feelings and how the suffering the titans have brought into their lives affects them are conveyed differently in each character. Those of you who haven't seen it will think, "but is it really that cruel? For me, the way Shingeki no Kyojin portrays all those deaths in the anime is very cruel, but at the same time it's one of the most incredible things he has. With each episode, Shingeki no Kyojin has managed to keep me guessing why the titans exist, where they came from and what might lead some characters to not want the identity of the monsters to be revealed. Few anime have managed to get me so far into the story, let alone to feel half as much emotion and compassion for the vast majority of characters, if not all of humanity.

Why do the titans exist and how did they appear? Why do they devour humans if they don't really need to in order to survive? These are the great unknowns of this story and the ones that humanity wishes to discover. For this reason, there is a group of people who organize missions outside the walls to investigate and discover new facts about the titans with the aim of exterminating them. The development of the plot is mainly focused on this group of people, the legion of exploration, where the main characters of the series and more characters that will make us feel the fear, despair and cruelty that characterizes Shingeki no Kyojin.
