This mystery-laden teen drama is the television adaptation developed by I. Marlene King ('Give Me Back My Luck') of the popular series of novels of the same name written by Sara Shepard. The success of the first season of the series has placed it above other teen dramas such as 'Gossip Girl' or 'Glee'. 'Pretty Little Liars' follows the lives of four teenage girls: Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale, 'Privileged'), Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell, 'Aaron Stone'), Hannah Marin (Ashley Benson, 'Eastwick') and Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario, 'Navy: Criminal Investigation') whose world comes crashing down with the disappearance of the group's leader, Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse, 'Heroes'). A year later tragedy strikes, the body is found and the four friends are reunited at their friend's funeral, unaware of what awaits them.
