The first thing to note is that "The Acolyte" is set in the final years of the High Republic era, a period marked by relative peace in the galaxy, protected by a Jedi Order in its golden age. This era has been primarily explored through the multimedia project "The High Republic," divided into different phases. Phase 1 takes place in 232 BBY, Phase 2 in 382 BBY (150 years before Phase 1), and Phase 3 in 229 BBY (3 years after Phase 1). "The Acolyte" specifically occurs in 132 BBY, placing it about 100 years after Phase 1 of "The High Republic" and 100 years before "The Phantom Menace."

The Jedi Order and Its Guardians

Despite being at the end of the High Republic era, several distinctive features of the Jedi Order from this period can be seen throughout the teaser, such as their white and gold robes. This is evident in Master Sol, played by Lee Jung-Jae. In the opening scene, Sol is teaching initiates, including a Tarsunt, in one of the typical training rooms of the Jedi Temple, similar to those seen in "Attack of the Clones" and "Obi-Wan Kenobi." However, this first scene seems to be a flashback. While most initiates sense life and balance, one girl sees fire, possibly foreseeing the dark future awaiting Mae, the series' protagonist.

Introducing Mae, the Protagonist

In the same scene, the figure of none other than Master Vernestra Rwoh can be seen in the background. The Mirialan is one of the protagonists of the young adult novels of Phases 1 and 3 of "The High Republic," making her first appearance in "A Test of Courage." Known to her friends as Vern, Vernestra was the Padawan of Master Stellan Gios and became the youngest Jedi to reach the rank of Knight at just 15 years old, after which she took on her own apprentice, Imri Cantaros. By the time of the series, she is about 116 years old.

Sinsiter Crimes and Jedi Investigations

According to the synopsis, Master Sol will embark on investigating a disturbing wave of crimes, which, as mentioned by Jedi Knight Yord during the trailer, are none other than Jedi murders. These killings are perpetrated by Mae, played by Amandla Stenberg. Her first target is Master Indara, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, who is found in a cantina on a forested world. A group of Jedi led by Master Sol, including a Kel Dor who could very well be Plo Koon given the series' timeline, will be sent to investigate this planet.

New Jedi Characters

Another prominent Jedi in the series is Kelnacca, a Wookiee Jedi Master played by Joonas Suotamo, the actor who brought Chewbacca to life in the sequel trilogy and "Solo: A Star Wars Story." He is one of the Jedi who confronts Mother Aniseya and her group of acolytes. According to the databank, Aniseya, portrayed by Jodie Turner-Smith, leads a coven of witches who value their independence and the preservation of their beliefs and powers.

The Rising Darkness

The trailer closes with a charge led by several Jedi, headed by Sol, towards the wielder of a red-bladed lightsaber, who appears to be Mae. At this point in the timeline, almost 900 years have passed since Darth Bane executed his plan to eliminate the rest of the Sith of his time and established the Rule of Two, which dictates that only two Sith Lords can exist simultaneously-a master and an apprentice. Bane's strategy deceived the Jedi into believing their great enemies had been extinguished, allowing him to begin working on the Grand Plan. This plan involved the Sith lineage hiding and manipulating galactic events from the shadows, gradually weakening the Republic until they could strike their final blow.
